After five years serving on the Foundation’s Finance and Investment Committee, Corey brings a strong commitment to financial stewardship and community impact to his new role.

OXFORD, Ohio – The Greater Oxford Community Foundation has welcomed Dr. Corey Shank to its Board of Directors following five years of service on the Foundation’s Finance and Investment Committee.

Shank, an associate professor of finance at Miami University Farmer School of Business, brings extensive experience in finance, research, and community engagement to the Foundation’s leadership. Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Shank earned degrees from Virginia Tech, University of Findlay, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley before beginning his academic career.

At Miami, Shank teaches corporate finance and international finance, with research focused on how individuals and institutions make financial decisions. Before joining Miami, he taught at Dalton State College in Georgia and Oklahoma State University.

For Shank, joining the Foundation’s board is both a professional and personal commitment to the Oxford community.

“Oxford is home,” Shank said. “My wife and I are raising our family here, and we care deeply about the strength of the community our children are growing up in.”

Shank said he first became involved with the Foundation after looking for ways to contribute locally.

“Given my background in finance, serving on the Finance and Investment Committee felt like a practical and meaningful way to use my professional skills in service of the community,” he said.

During his five years on the committee, Shank helped oversee the responsible stewardship of Foundation assets to support the organization’s long-term mission.

“Much of the work happens behind the scenes, but it is essential to the Foundation’s long-term mission,” Shank said. “The committee helps ensure that the Foundation’s assets are managed responsibly so the Foundation can continue supporting the community not only today, but for many years to come.”

Shank said he is especially proud of the committee’s commitment to thoughtful financial stewardship and its efforts to strengthen how the Foundation evaluates and manages resources.

As a board member, he hopes to contribute to the Foundation’s long-term planning and continued community impact.

“The Foundation is important because it helps turn generosity into lasting community impact,” Shank said. “The gifts, scholarships, and grants the Foundation provides can deeply shape the lives of recipients and strengthen the community as a whole.”

He also highlighted the Foundation’s broad reach across Oxford, supporting initiatives including parks and trail improvements, local schools, scholarships, the arts, social services, civic projects, and quality-of-life initiatives.

Outside of his professional work, Shank is a former pole vaulter who won a national championship and was later inducted into the Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame. He is also the author of a book examining how human physiology shapes financial decisions, along with a book chapter on psychopaths in the financial industry.

For the future, Shank said he hopes his service will help the Foundation continue strengthening its impact across the Oxford community for generations to come.
