Annual award celebrates educators who go above and beyond to support their students and school communities
OXFORD, Ohio — The Greater Oxford Community Foundation has announced Sarah Currier, a teacher at Bogan Elementary School, as the 2026 recipient of the Teckman Educator Award.
Established in 1997 by Charlie and Joan Teckman in honor of their parents, Harry and Virginia Teckman, both lifelong educators, the award recognizes outstanding teachers, staff and administrators in the Talawanda School District who make a lasting impact on their students and school community.
Currier was selected for her dedication to her students and her strong commitment to fostering a supportive classroom environment. According to her nomination, she is known as a powerful advocate for her students and is recognized for her ability to communicate effectively and ensure every child feels heard, valued and capable, regardless of their challenges.
“I’ve been teaching kindergarten at Bogan for seven years,” Currier said. “I feel so lucky that I get to be a part of the huge growth spurts that happen between August and May — academically, socially and emotionally. The kindness and wonder that my students bring into the classroom each day gives me so much hope. They truly see magic in ordinary things, and being around that every day makes the world feel a little lighter.”
The Teckman Educator Award highlights the importance of excellence in education and celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to support student success. Currier’s work reflects the values the award was created to honor, continuing the legacy of the Teckman family’s commitment to education.
The Greater Oxford Community Foundation presents the $5,000 award annually to recognize educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication and make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students.
