Started by in 2017 by Richard Campbell, James Rubenstein, and John Skillings of Miami University, funds from this restricted fund will be disbursed to Miami University at the recommendation of the Oxford Area Newspaper Committee (or another nonprofit organization approved by the Foundation). Funds will be used to provide scholarships to Miami students serving as journalists for a local area newspaper. Scholarship recipients will be recommended by the Oxford Area Newspaper Committee. Funds may also be used to provide resources to the Dean of the College of Arts and Science at Miami University for the purpose of providing students with real-world experience in reporting on Oxford and surrounding communities throughout the year, through support of the Capstone in Journalism course and other teaching efforts of the Department of Media, Journalism & Film. All expenditures will be consistent with the Oxford Community Foundation guidelines. The Oxford Area Newspaper Committee is organized to educate the public by promoting the the dissemination of news in the Oxford Area via a local newspaper or by other means of communications and to underwrite the costs of operating a local newspaper. The original committee consists of Richard Campbell, James Rubenstein, and John Skillings. The committee will notify the Foundation as to additional and new committee members.
