What We Are
What Is the Oxford Community Foundation?
We are a locally controlled non-profit corporation. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in Greater Oxford, which includes Hanover, Milford, Reily, and Oxford Townships. The Foundation receives, manages, and distributes gifts from individuals, organizations, and businesses concerned about our community and its people.
How Does the Foundation Work?
Members of the Foundation's Board of Directors, who serve without pay, solicit gifts, large and small. These gifts are carefully invested by the Finance and Investment Committee. The Grants Committee evaluates requests from local non-profit organizations and makes awards based on the income from these investments. An Executive Director selected by the Directors provides day-to-day administration.
How Is the Foundation Different from Other Philanthropic Organizations?
Gifts stay within and benefit Greater Oxford.
Donors may direct that their gifts be used for any specific group or field of interest which is consistent with the Foundation's mission.
Donors can set up a Fund and name it -- after themselves or their family, in honor or in memory of a loved one, or for a specific cause, for example.
The Foundation can ensure that the intent of the donor is honored, even after death, or in the event that the designated charity becomes defunct.
Oxford and its environs benefit from the gift for all time, not just during the lifetime of the donor.
The Foundation can save time for philanthropically minded people by distributing charitable Funds in the manner a donor has directed.
With a Charitable Gift Fund, a donor can give to the Foundation when the tax advantage is greatest; and the Foundation can award grants from your Fund to charities you suggest at any time within the next few years.
Other non-profit organizations can also initiate endowed named Funds to benefit their charitable objectives.
What Can the Foundation Do for Greater Oxford?
The Foundation offers individuals, organizations, and businesses the opportunity to make gifts to a central foundation which in turn assists the community in many areas: education, arts and culture, health services, social welfare, recreation, the environment, civic projects, and beautification, for example.
