"As part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 signed into law on January 2nd, the IRA charitable rollover was extended for two years, retroactive to January 2012. Rules included in the law allow eligible taxpayers (those 70 ½ or older) who took an IRA distribution in December 2012 to contribute those funds to a charity by February 1, 2013 and count it as a qualified charitable distribution for the 2012 tax year. Additionally, the IRA extension allows donors to distribute IRA funds directly to charities before the February 1 2013 date and have it count as a 2012 contribution."
